About the role
ABOUT FLUIDSTACK
We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.
We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.
We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!
HOW WE OPERATE
- Be a barrel. Full autonomy. Own things end to end, take on scope without being asked, no permission required to operate outside your core role.
- Insane urgency. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.
- Reason from first principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.
- Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
- Build something that actually matters. If you're going to spend your time, spend it on something that matters to the world.
THE CAPACITY DELIVERY TEAM
Examples of key problems the team is working on
- Engineer gigawatts from drawing to energized, in months not years. Capacity Delivery owns technical execution across every build: the drawings, the field questions, and the engineering calls that keep multiple concurrent gigawatt sites moving.
- Engineer data centers that go up in months, not years. At that pace rework is not an option: problems get caught on paper or they cost a data hall.
- Design it once, build it a hundred times. Every site's lessons roll into the reference design on the way to 10s to 100s of GWs, so each build starts ahead of the last.
ROLE SCOPE
- Own electrical engineering across the portfolio as the single technical authority, from utility interface to rack and from reference design to energization, with sign-off on every electrical design.
- Set the electrical reference design (switchgear lineups, UPS topology, busway) and run it as a design-once, deploy-many standard that every site build feeds back into.
- Build and lead the electrical engineering organization: hire at speed, set decision rights and review discipline, and govern the EOR firms, OEMs and EPCs delivering against the standard.
- Own engineering scope, schedule and budget across concurrent multi-hundred-megawatt programs, and brief the executive team on the trade-offs that shape capital and portfolio decisions.
- Hold energization readiness site by site with utilities and AHJs, and set the bar so consultant studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) are reviewed critically rather than ceremonially before release.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/fluidstack/05c2e69c-42f9-4fcb-9cf0-a467aaf98f1c.
- You've led electrical engineering as head of function for data center or heavy industrial builds, with sign-off authority across a portfolio of concurrent programs.
- You've built an engineering organization: hired quickly, wrote the operating model, and grew engineers into leads who carry programs without you.
- You've standardized an electrical design, deployed it across multiple sites, and used each build to improve the standard.
- You've governed outside EOR firms and OEMs, set the review standard for protection and coordination studies, and sent errors back before release.
- You've owned energization sequences with utilities and AHJs, and acted as the on-site technical authority when field calls had to be fast without giving up safety.
- You've owned engineering budgets and change orders on nine-figure programs, and you can turn an engineering trade-off into a cost, schedule and margin decision for executives.
- Bonus: PE license. MV and HV distribution (15 kV and 38 kV switchgear, HV switchyards). Behind-the-meter generation (combined cycle, aeroderivative peakers). Utility interconnection (PJM, ERCOT, MISO). OEM and EPC contract negotiation (switchgear, transformers, UPS).
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
