POSITION OVERVIEW
Kratos Industries is seeking an experienced EHS Manager to lead the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability function across our manufacturing facilities. This is a senior program leadership role with direct accountability for EHS strategy, regulatory compliance, cultural development, and team growth.
This person will serve as the primary EHS authority for the organization — establishing governance frameworks, owning all written programs, leading incident investigations, managing regulatory relationships, and building the infrastructure necessary for ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification.
As a member of the Operations Leadership Team, the EHS Manager is embedded in the business — participating in capital project planning, facility expansion decisions, new product introduction, and operational reviews from the outset rather than after decisions are made.
As Kratos grows, the EHS Manager will build and lead a team of EHS professionals and is expected to be a succession candidate for expanded EHS leadership responsibilities.
This role is the right fit for an EHS professional who is ready to take ownership of a complete multi-site program — including the leadership, strategic planning, and cross-functional influence that entails.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Ownership & Governance
Own and maintain all written EHS programs and procedures including LOTO, HazCom, PPE, Emergency Action Plan, machine guarding, PIT, confined space, fall prevention, ergonomics, and contractor safety
Establish and enforce the approved chemicals list — no new chemical enters any Kratos facility without EHS review and approval
Design and govern the JHA program — set risk methodology, approve elevated and critical-risk JHAs, and ensure all JHAs are completed through field observation
Own the CAPA process — define the process, govern 30-day closure timelines, and review all CAPAs for systemic root cause patterns
Maintain all regulatory calendars (OSHA, EPA, DOT) and ensure timely compliance with all reporting and posting obligations
Incident Investigation & Regulatory Reporting
Lead all incident investigations for serious, recordable, and high-potential events across all facilities
Maintain the OSHA 300 log, post the 300A annual summary, and file all required OSHA agency notifications within mandated timeframes — including 8-hour and 24-hour reporting requirements for severe injuries
Report all recordable incidents to the company's insurance carrier and manage open claim relationships
Ensure corrective actions from investigations are tracked to verified closure within 30 days
Cross-Functional Partnership & Proactive Risk Reduction
Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to identify and eliminate recurring risks at the source — not just document and respond to them
Embed EHS review into new product introduction (NPI), capital equipment acquisition, and facility layout planning from the earliest stages — before designs are finalized
Participate in automation and industrialization planning to ensure EHS controls are engineered in, not retrofitted after deployment
Support facility expansion and layout changes from an EHS standpoint — including egress, hazard segregation, emergency response access, and compliance readiness for new operations
Serve as the EHS voice in operational reviews, proactively surfacing risk trends and recommending systemic countermeasures rather than reacting to individual events
Electrical Safety Program
Own the company's electrical safety program in full — including NFPA 70E compliance, energized electrical work permit process, and arc flash hazard analysis across all facilities
Maintain arc flash labeling and ensure equipment is properly evaluated and labeled; coordinate with Engineering to schedule arc flash studies as facility configurations change
Manage the energized work permit program — define permit conditions, approval authority, and required PPE tiers based on incident energy analysis
Partner closely with Engineering and Test during equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and high-voltage/high-amperage testing activities to ensure appropriate controls are in place before work begins
Own electrical safety training requirements and coordinate with the Training Department on delivery for electrically qualified and unqualified persons per NFPA 70E definitions
Team Leadership & Development
Hire, onboard, and develop a team of EHS Specialists and Coordinators as the organization grows
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to facility-level EHS staff
Define role scope, set performance expectations, and ensure consistent program delivery across all sites
Safety Training — Program Oversight
Collaborate with the Training Department to design and deploy the EHS training program — EHS owns content standards and compliance requirements; Training primarily leads delivery infrastructure.
Ensure all regulatory and program-specific training requirements are identified, assigned, and met by role and department
For specialized EHS training where subject matter expertise is required (e.g., LOTO, HazCom, incident investigation), EHS may deliver training directly or in partnership with Training
Monitor training completion rates across all facilities and drive accountability for gaps
Metrics, Reporting & Strategic Planning
Own all EHS performance metrics — TRIR (FR2T), LTIR, EMR, and leading indicators including near-miss rates, training completion, and inspection activity
Prepare and present EHS content for monthly management reviews and KOS/KPI dashboards
Report to Division Director of EHS/CSR as required by corporate standards
Drive annual EHS goal-setting aligned with the company's multi-phase EHS improvement roadmap
ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 Implementation
Lead gap assessment for both ISO certifications and develop a documented implementation roadmap
Build required elements: risk assessment documentation, worker participation structure, environmental aspects register, internal audit capability, and management review integration
Serve as primary point of contact for certification bodies during pre-audit and audit activities
Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
Own all environmental programs: regulated waste management, stormwater, Tier II reporting, and air permit compliance as applicable
Build the data infrastructure for ESG and sustainability reporting in alignment with future customer and corporate expectations
Ensure environmental compliance at all facilities and maintain required regulatory records
Safety Culture & Safety Committee
Lead or co-chair the Kratos Safety Committee and ensure safety is the first agenda item at all management-level meetings
Sustain a near-miss and hazard observation (Safety Saves / Good Catches) program with measurable year-over-year growth in participation
Own and continuously improve the EHS new hire orientation program framework across all facilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related technical field
Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated experience managing multi-hazard environments including welding, chemical handling, energized electrical work, or powered industrial vehicles
Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry) and EPA regulatory requirements
Experience leading incident investigations using structured root cause analysis methodologies
Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical safety program management
Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to author technical programs, present to leadership, and write regulatory correspondence
Preferred
CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP credential, or active pursuit thereof
Experience leading or supporting ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 implementation
Experience managing or developing direct reports in an EHS function
Knowledge of DOT hazardous materials shipping requirements
Familiarity with OSHA VPP program elements
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required for this role
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical demands
Regularly required to walk production floors, climb stairs, and access all areas of manufacturing facilities
Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, and high-visibility vest
Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs for safety equipment or sample collection
Ability to work in environments with elevated noise, temperature variation, and chemical exposure within OSHA permissible limits
Work environment
Primarily manufacturing floor and production environments — not a desk-only role
Cross-site travel between Kratos facilities is a regular expectation
Occasional work near energized electrical equipment, welding operations, and robotic systems (PPE provided and required)
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE
FR2T trending at or below industry benchmark for SIC code, with year-over-year improvement — not just compliance, but measurable risk reduction.
Corrective actions from incidents and audits closed within 30 days at a rate of 90% or better — the program responds and follows through.
Near-miss and hazard observation participation growing year over year — employees are reporting because they trust it leads to action.
Zero OSHA citations resulting from programmatic gaps — the program is built well enough that an inspection is not a liability.
EHS is present at the table before capital projects, facility changes, and automation decisions are finalized — not called in to react after the fact.
Employee and supervisor engagement with EHS programs is measurable and trending positively — safety is part of how work gets done at Kratos, not a separate function that watches work get done.
