The United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK) is part of a global organization that directly impacts our local communities. We are committed to fostering a collaborative culture where every team member feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute. Our work is rooted in making a meaningful impact, changing lives, and embracing our community's strengths. YOU are an essential part of making our mission a reality. Join a team of great people, collaborate on meaningful work, and serve the communities you call home while you do it.
About the role
Do you like finding the story in a dataset, and then helping people act on it? As our Data & Analytics Manager, you'll be UWGK's in-house data advisor. You won't own anyone's systems. Instead, you'll work across every department to get more value from the data we already collect.
You'll run analyses, build dashboards, and help Directors and Program Managers decide what to measure and why. You'll also strengthen how data moves between our systems and help staff across the organization get comfortable using it. Your work will shape reports for leadership, our Board, and our funders, and it will help show how UWGK changes lives in Greater Knoxville.
What you'll do
Analytics, Modeling & Visualization
- Perform statistical analysis and modeling on data collected by departments to identify patterns, trends, and insights that inform business decisions.
- Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations that translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
- Identify opportunities to streamline or automate recurring analysis and reporting work.
Data Governance & Architecture Advisory
Review existing data models and recommend conceptual, logical, and physical data models (e.g., entity-relationship diagrams) to strengthen accuracy, consistency, and security.
Advise departments and ELT on data standards and best practices for availability, accuracy, completeness, and security — without owning any department's systems or data.
Cross-Departmental Advisory & Alignment
- Serve as a connector and thought partner to Directors and Managers, helping departments define what to measure and apply insights to decisions.
- Support departments on compliance-related data questions (federal, state, and grant-specific requirements); each department owns data collection and program delivery.
- Collaborate with Finance, Advancement, and Impact teams to align metrics, definitions, and reporting formats across systems.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
Monitor programmatic compliance with federal, state, and grant-specific requirements to ensure fidelity to programmatic frameworks and UWGK protocols.
Advise departments on compliance and CQI practices related to federal, state, and grant-specific data requirements, and develop guidance and training tools for departments, Primary Partners, and subcontracted entities.
Measurement, Reporting & Organizational Learning
- Support grantor and other external reporting requirements related to outcomes and impact, in collaboration with Grant Administration, Finance, and Impact teams.
- Coordinate the use of internal and external data sources to strengthen understanding of community needs, program performance, and organizational and community outcomes.
- Partner with UWGK teams to identify opportunities to use data and evaluation findings to improve programs, processes, and organizational practices.
Organizational Reporting & Capacity Building
- Develop outcome and impact reports that synthesize program-, partner-, and organizational-level data for leadership and the Board.
- Build Changemakers' data literacy by training staff on how to access, interpret, and use reports and dashboards.
- Represent UWGK's data practices in peer-learning settings and external convenings as needed.
