Description
- PRIMARY ROLE: To provide primary health and emergency care to students, promote wellness and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting.
- RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
- Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.
- Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.
- Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.
- Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.
- Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.
- REPORTS TO: School Nurse, Head of School
Requirements
Hold current, unrestricted, Illinois State license as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse
Current certification in CPR
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: allergies, asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management
- Implement the nursing process in a school-based setting and provide support for unlicensed personnel
- Ability to perform skilled nursing care such insulin administration, insulin pump skills and nebulizer treatments, inhalers, emergency medications
- Providing first aid for various issues throughout the day and notify EMS if needed
- Exceptional clinical documentation via a computer-based platform for all encounters
Manage complex situations and triage accordingly for grades K3-12th grade including but not limited to:
- head injury, psychiatric needs, potential anaphylaxis, trauma
- Professing Christian with active participation in the local church body
- DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field
- Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing
- Prior experience in school nursing, or acute care setting
